Continental ContiProContact™ Tires Feature PROactive Edge Technology:

ContiProContact's PROactive Edge Technology innovates tire engineering and performance. The Continental patterned edge design increases road grip and provides a quieter ride. The ContiProContact provides you with the confidence to drive your high-performance vehicle at its peak performance, while maintaining safety.

active_edges_uv-data.jpg Each ContiProContact tire, available at Spanial's Service Center, features at least 800 pattern edges in its tread. Having more edges provides tires with more grip. PROactive Edge Technology is more than just the quantity of edges in the tread; it is also the shape of the pattern edges. Edges are most effective when they are perpendicular to the direction of travel. Continental's engineering team designed the
ContiProContact's edges in an arched pattern so that there are more active edges in the contact patch. And no matter what the direction of travel is, there are always edges with the right orientation.

Since your tire contact area is comparable to the size of a postcard, it is critical that your tires maximize the contact area interaction with the road. The design of the ContiProContact's provides maximum edge contact in every direction of travel, and this optimizes performance and minimizes noise in dry, wet, and snowy conditions. Knowing that your tires have been designed with superior traction in mind provides the confidence you need to make those unexpected sharp turns.

When the Continental engineering team added a curved design to the edges, this enabled the pattern elements to transfer effortlessly from edge to edge providing better grip and a quieter ride. Tires with straight edges have a more harsh transition, which creates tire noise.

ContiProContact™ PROgressive Groove Ramp:

pgr_picture_Spanials_Continental.jpgOwner's of luxury high-performance vehicles, such as BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar, demand and expect performance , control, and safety in wet conditions. The PROgressive Groove Ramp of the ContiProContact incorporates features that meet high-end European vehicle demands. This new groove geometry has a wider and progressively rounded groove base that is present in every groove. The rounded grooves provide added lateral support to promote efficient water evacuation. Spanial's Service Center customers who drive on Continental Tires can be confident when cornering knowing that the PROgressive Groove Ramp is in action.

ContiProContact™ are particularly effective when cornering and the vehicle load increases in the shoulder. This unique ramp shape promotes less block deformation and enables stability retention while cornering. To the driver, the PROgressive Groove Ramp also means smoother handling and steering response as a tire turns or brakes, forces are applied to each tread element. On lesser quality tires, too much movement causes a drop in the performance of the tire, particularly in handling and cornering. The PROgressive Groove Ramp of the ContiProContact reduces detrimental shifting of the tread elements and improves on road performance.

Continental ContiProContact™ Tires reduce the chances of hydroplaning by absorbing and expelling water from the tire. The PROgressive Groove Ramp provides an escape route for water away from the tread. By forcing the water away from the tread more effectively, hydroplaning resistance is maximized.

ContiProContact™ Controlled Sipe Interaction (CSI)

Controlled Sipe Interaction is a Continental Tire innovation that works from the road to the depth of the tire. The design of the Controlled Sipe Interaction is built upon the same geometry as the PROactive Edge Technology and is perfect for European cars such as BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar. Rather than using straight sipes to create tire stability when turning, the siping has an arched design. This design causes the tread blocks to lock together rather than slide across each other. When the blocks lock together, they become stronger and more stable, which results in very precise steering response and reduces tread wear.

abc_sipes_curved_Spanials_Continental.jpgThis can be illustrated by taking three curved shapes, A, B, and C, and stacking them together. If you try to remove shape B, it is very difficult because A and C cause a locking effect.

123_sipes_straight_Spanials_Continental.jpgConversely, with three straight objects, 1, 2, and 3, shape 2 can be easily removed because the locking effect is not present.

Tread blocks with straight siping are sometimes not as strong as the tread blocks of the ContiProContact. When tread blocks with straight sipes interact with the force of the road, the block elements may slide against each other and have uncontrolled deformation. This can lead to instability.

csi_Spanials_Continental.jpgThe Controlled Sipe Interaction of the ContiProContact creates an interlocking of the tread blocks' elements via the curved sipe design. This interlocking controls the increased chance of deformation of the blocks. As the tire goes through a turn or any other lateral force is applied, the blocks interlock and create a feeling of stability and precision. Controlled Sipe Interaction also means even wear of the tread. Because of the interlocking structure of the blocks, the individual tread blocks will not shift or deform as much as tires without Controlled Sipe Interaction technology. The tread will wear more evenly and last longer.

The benefit to the consumer is responsiveness without sacrificing wear. Ask about Continental ContiProContact Tires at Spanial's Service Center in Hatfield and Lansdale, PA,  when you need the best tires for your European vehicle.

The ContiProContact's low noise level is one of the reasons why the ContiProContact is original equipment on many high-end automobiles, such as BMW, Mercedes, and Jaguar.
